Drop by Drop

30.11.2025.

An autumn morning, heavy with dew. Sunbeams lit up our valley and, all at once, diamonds appeared across the spiderwebs. The effect lasted barely ten minutes, until the sun dried the tiny drops and the webs became invisible again. Luckily, we caught them through the lens.

A beautiful display of water’s surface tension. The drops are threaded into perfect spheres that seem to hover in the air. It is also a clear reminder that spider silk is among the toughest and most resilient materials — “stronger than steel and stretchy as nylon” — since such a fine thread can carry all those drops without visibly bending. The camera enlarged them better than our own eyes could. Nothing else needs saying. This scene is one of nature’s proper little miracles, and I am delighted to share it. Model: Marko.
