Textures of copper elegance soaked into the atmosphere and lit up the island’s autumn. Many island plants are evergreen. Pines, shrubs, citrus trees, grasses, wild herbs, kale, and chard all carry that healthy green at this time of year. Yet a few plants still move into the mature turn of their cycle and reveal it in copper. Small heart-shaped copper leaves hang like jewellery through the groves. Dried needles and fallen branches become textures of a pine tree’s passing lifespan. Copper fern leaves ornament the clearings with a note of wisdom.
