Transfer to Biševo

06.04.2025.

At eight in the morning in Komiža, we boarded Pruga, the boat that runs Komiža–Biševo and back again. Today there was nobody aboard but us. Frane the deckhand joked that we had better hurry and grab our seats. We said we would fight it out with our elbows… It is not unusual for us to have Pruga to ourselves. This time the sea was moderately calm, the sky lightly clouded: a good day to document the trip.

Inside Pruga. I deliberately did not straighten this photo in Photoshop because I wanted to keep the feeling of the boat rocking. That is how the picture came out, and that is exactly what it shows.

The deck, our best mate when “there is some sea” — meaning when the boat is really pitching. We step outside so our stomachs do not start climbing. In winter this is where building materials, bins, supplies, and all sorts of practical stuff travel. In summer the benches and awning come out, followed by a whole crowd of tourists. Pruga’s official name is Sv. Salvestar (Silvestar), as you can see in the photo. He is the patron saint of Biševo.

The view to starboard toward Biševo. We are getting closer to the island.

The view behind us, toward the island of Vis, which we are leaving.

We are approaching Mezoporat Bay.

Frane throws the rope to tie the boat to the pier. We are docking at Mezoporat.

Job done: a few parcels dropped off, fresh rubbish bins loaded, and we leave Mezoporat Bay. On we go toward Salbunara and Porat, where we get off…
