


You have probably seen a bug lay and glue a neat patch of eggs onto some surface. I always wondered which bug it was, what it looked like, and how disgusting those eggs might turn out to be — meaning, what exactly was going to hatch from them…
At last we caught a butterfly or moth right in the act, laying eggs on the leg of our terrace table. It was fascinating to peer into the gap between its head and the table leg and watch the exact moment it formed and placed each egg. Sadly, I could not wedge my phone in far enough to capture that bit. The moth carried on with the job, entirely unfazed by our documentary crew. The next day, only perfectly round, pearly eggs remained in their tidy pattern. This story has a sequel…
